The Integrated Rural Development Program (IRDP) aimed to help rural families earn more money and escape poverty. It provided government grants and loans to help families buy things that could help them earn a living. Studies shows that, about 55 million poor people benefited from this program. The program focused on families living below the poverty line in rural areas. Although the IRDP ended in 1999 and became part of another program called the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana, it helped shape future rural development efforts and is still important in India’s fight against poverty.
