‘Food for Work’, as the name suggests, it means getting food in return of doing some work. It is a welfare initiative launched by GOI to provide employment to the rural poor in exchange of food grains. It aims to fight against two issues- unemployment in the rural India and Hunger and Malnutrition. Under this program, instead of providing financial support, people are given food in return for their labor in public works—like building roads, canals, or cleaning water bodies.
