Why SDG 13 is important to achieve?

The planet and people here are seriously threatened by climate change. Fossil fuel combustion, forest loss, deforestation, and other human activities have raised global temperatures by 1.1°C over pre-industrial levels. Global warming must be reduced by almost half by 2030 in order to keep it to 1.5°C over pre-industrial levels. The WHO estimates that between 2030 and 2050, climate change will result in an extra 250,000 deaths annually. At least nine million premature deaths occur each year due to pollution and hazardous substances worldwide.  Only global effort and a forceful approach to the issue from all sides will be able to reverse this trend.
