CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has been appointed as the new United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Hub Chair for SDG 5: Gender Equality. The university will lead the SDG 5 Hub from January 2025 to December 2027. As part of the UNAI initiative, which includes over 1,700 institutions globally, the university will contribute to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through education, research, and strategic partnerships. The UNAI initiative, launched in 2010, aims to promote human rights, sustainability, and conflict resolution.
“This appointment is in alignment with the university’s commitment to sustainability. Our distinctive SDG Cell – headed by Professor Leena James, has been a pioneering initiative, driving innovative approaches to the Sustainable Development Goals through education, impactful research, and action. This recognition further strengthens our resolve to advance gender equality and foster transformative change,” said Fr. Joseph CC, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
